Etobicoke Clinics Transformation: we have plans!

With our partner clinic to the South, South Etobicoke Community Legal Services, the board and staff of Rexdale Community Legal Clinic are embarking on a process that will see a single management structure over both clinics by sometime in 2020.

WILL I LOSE MY COMMUNITY LEGAL CLINIC?

Absolutely not! We expect to maintain a South location, near Kipling Subway Station) and a North location, at the Rexdale hub. Our clients will be able to reach us by phone or in person, just as they can now. We will be able to arrange appointments at a location convenient to you.

WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?

Both clinics expect to see improvements in client service, including the sharing of skills among the legal staff, improvements in hours of reception and intake hours by sharing staff. We hope to end up with more skilled workers available to provide services such as public legal education in  community agencies and community groups.

WILL YOU CHANGE YOUR NAME? WILL YOU BE HARD TO FIND?

Hang on a minute, we haven’t decided everything yet. We might have a new name, and we’ll be sure to advertise it. We will probably keep the same phone numbers and you will be able to look up “legal clinic near me” just as you can now.

WHEN WILL ALL THIS HAPPEN? WHAT IF I NEED YOU IN THE MEANTIME?

Both clinics are carrying on business as usual while we discuss how to make one board, one policy manual, one staff team. We hope that clients won’t even notice most of the changes, any more than if we got new desks or phones (which could happen!).

WELL, THAT DOESN’T SOUND LIKE IT SHOULD TAKE TWO YEARS!

True! But we will be asking our volunteer board members and our staff to put in a lot of extra hours to make sure we end up with the right services and skills and management in the locations where they can do the most good. We want to do it right and do it smoothly.
